Classes at The Curious Thing are taught by all kinds of people with a passion for everything from farming to fan belts. Our tutors are friendly, engaging and enthusiastic, and are able to share their knowledge in a really accessible and hands-on way.

Tutors sometimes have professional expertise or experience of teaching, but equally might simply be passionate amateurs. Our classes cover an ever-expanding list of topics; please don’t feel limited by the types of topics we’ve covered in the past. We particularly like classes that can include a practical or hands-on element, although we do sometimes consider ‘talks’ if that better suits your topic. Our favourite classes cover tightly focussed topics, and offer something a bit quirky, unusual or surprising. Classes can be delivered outside, in your own venue, or we can help arrange a central venue. Classes are typically a couple of hours long, and usually take place in the evenings or at the weekend.

We work with tutors to agree class titles, content and practicalities, and discuss fees individually too (the fees we pay depend on the likely attendee numbers, class price and the cost of things like hiring venues, if required).

We’re especially keen to hear from prospective tutors who are less represented in the workplace, including those with disabilities, people from BME communities, people of all genders and those who identify as LGBTI. If you need additional support to make tutoring practical and accessible for you, please get in touch.
